This trend is viewed with concern when compared to the historical peak reached in 2015, during which the Hengchun Peninsula welcomed approximately 8.37 million people. While a temporary increase in visitor numbers was noted during the long weekends of October, the overall annual figures remained below the threshold of 2.2 million for the second year in a row.
The occupancy rates for lodging establishments throughout the Hengchun Peninsula have been described as dismal. It was highlighted that only a single hotel was able to maintain an average occupancy rate exceeding 60 percent throughout the previous year. Significant changes in the local infrastructure were also noted, including the permanent closure of Uni-Resort Kenting. Additionally, Fullon Hotel Kenting, recognized as one of the largest hospitality providers in the district, has been temporarily shuttered to facilitate extensive renovations.
